MY
BASEMENT…UGH!
WATER…WATER… MY BASEMENT IS RUINED!
DON’T
GIVE UP TOO FAST!
Most
people are sold a fix and the problem, which caused the problem, while the
problem is never solved.
I
believe in finding the problem first before spending thousands of dollars with
injection in the walls or your basement is dug up and a sump pump is installed.
DON’T
JUMP … JUMPING COST MONEY!
If
the damage is large, you should call your insurance company and see what you
are covered for. Your insurance
company might give you a name of a local emergency contractor who is reputable,
who might need to cleanup the water, remove drywall before it molds, and leave
fans to dry the floor.
Now
the work begins. Was it a sewer
backup, which Metro might cover for $2,500 but will suggest a valve to prevent
another back up which will cost close to or more than one gets from them. Metro will pay one time and one time
only. Now you have the mess inside
your home and if it was not a sewer back up you need to find the source of the
water,
You
could have:
Stopped
up gutters, tuck-pointing in bad shape, caulking missing around windows,
gutters which are not attached to the house and water is running down the side
of the home, downspouts clogged, the pipe from the downspout is clogged or
misdirected and water is coming against house, foundation cracks which are
bringing the water against the house and up through the basement floor via
hydrostatic pressure.
There
are just so many different things.
Whatever you do not seal up the walls or pay the contractor you select
until after the next major rain.
When you hire the contractor you need to insist and have him/her sign a
contract which ways that they will come while it is raining to recheck to see
if they diagnosed the problem correctly.
We at Saint Louis Painting look forward to having the opportunity to be of assistance to you in the near future!
