Faux – Soft Suede Illusion
Step 1: There are many ways to do this look; we suggest you use a satin finish paint and cut and roll each wall of the room separately after taping ceiling and trim.
Do not do the cut and then roll the room as you will get a “hat effect” due to the nature of satin paint.
Step 2: Remove tape as you finish a wall. Allow to dry 4 hours or more. One must remove the tape as one goes so the finish does not stick to both the wall and the adjoining area as when the tape is removed at a latter time it most likely will destroy the finish in the 2nd area.
Step 3: Tape the ceiling, corners of the first wall you wish to paint, and the baseboard and the wall facing that wall. You will only do 2 walls and then stop. Using non-sticky painters’ tape you will paint the other two walls either in 4 hours or the next day. The reason for doing this is to eliminate the overlapping non attractive corners which you will have if you do it any other way.
Step 4: In the left over paint or an additional amount of paint equal to 1/3 to ½ of what it took to cover the walls on the first coat add a sand texture (can be purchased at major stores) using the suggestions on the box. Be sure to still well. Now start by applying the paint using a 3” brush using the overlapping random “X” strokes.
TiP #1 Be sure to blend your strokes for a softly mottled effect. If you wish to make changes to the effect do so after the paint has dried at least 4 hours.
