HOW DO YOU GET
RID OF THAT OLD “BORDER” OR WALLPAPER?
For
a moment my mind started to spell “boarder” and a big smile came to my
face. As they say a guest by the
end of three days has a lot in common with stale fish and so too might that
“border”.
It
might be very simple and it might not.
The
first step would be to find a seam and see if you can peal it off. It it does you are very luck and need
only to take a solution of vinegar and water of a commercial wallpaper removal
solution and wash the left over glue from the wall.
You
might not be so lucky if the border will not peel or if the border is on top of
another wallpaper. You should
purchase a tool called a paper ticker, which penetrates the wallpaper and then
you can apply just hot water and lots of it and be patient. If you are patient enough the wallpaper
will just peal off. Hot water is
the key. Protect the floor by
putting down plastic on the floor and then putting a tarp on top of the
plastic. You must not let the water
penetrate to the floor and if it does you need to dry it up quickly.
It
is hard for a professional painter to give you an estimate; it is best to
consider someone who will work on time and materials.
If
you have problems with the wallpaper tool you might need to skim coat the area
with drywall mud and then prime the area before painting.
You
might just consider using an oil base sealer on top of the present wallpaper,
skim any seams, which are visible, prime, and paint. If you do it correctly you will save a lot of time and
money.
