tip #2

If you do not have a domain name consider purchasing one that has been in existence for a few years.

Buying an expired domain name is fast growing in popularity as a strategy used to increase web traffic as well as online profits. An expired domain is one whose previous owner has not renewed ownership of it due to various reasons. These domains are then re-cast into the market online for sale.  Buying an expired domain name, you can gain immediate page rank and "link popularity".  In other words, you can capitalize on what the previous site accomplished.  In this way, expired domain names may help you start out closer to the top of serch engine results pags rather than spending time and money clawing your way from the bottom.

Approval of Google®

Did the previous site stay on Google's good side? If it violated any of Google's strict guidelines -- including those against reciprocal linking or serial spamming -- it could be difficult (if not impossible) for you to get indexed on the search engine's results pages. Even emails linked to your domain will be blocked.

You can check domain names in the Google cache, a public, online tool that allows you to see what version of a page is currently in its index. Simply enter "cache:domainname.com" in the Google search box and you'll see a snapshot of the site taken by Google the last time it crawled the Web. This version of the site was used to generate the index results – if you can't find it, there could be a problem.

Most importantly you should have a name that has the keywords that your potential customer would most likely be using.

What about the name stlouisweddingcakes.com   This name is not in use

What about the names denvercondos.com This name is not in use

**remember you cannot use the word realtor in your web name!

What about luxuryhomesinDenver.com this name is in use

The name luxuryhomesincolorado.com is being used

One of the sites you can find expired names or names being offered for sale is namejet.com an example of a name found available  today was "loanspoorcredit.com which is a pretty good name for someone in the loan business.  This name has no value as it was never used. There are 12 people bidding for the name and the high bid is $70. The name will be available today. I also found oceanfrontrental.biz with one bidder at $69 which is available today. This name would do you no benefit as it is not a site that has ever been used.

Many times people purchase domain names only to resell them and you gain nothing except the name, which might have some keyword value but will not help with gaining any links or page rank.

This is not an easy process to get a good domain name that will immediately be found by the search engines such as Google.

I made the mistake of taking the names SaintLouisPainting.com  while Saint, Louis, and Painting are my good keywords; I failed to realize at the time that most people use the abbreviation St instead of using the full word Saint.  I have overcome the mistake I explain how I solved this in the advance tip at the bottom of this blog.

You have an idea for a name!  Go to http://www.whois.com and enter the name.

For example my website is www.saintlouispainting.com an press enter. The offer available similar names. Names no in use.  For more data click whois. You will see that I am the registrant and that I am hosted on godaddy.com.  Again by going to godaddy.com and entering my domain name they will show you some suggestions.

Summary today!

It is very important to choose a domain name with the keywords which relate to your business.

If you purchase an expired or name supposedly used before chck it out to make sure that it truly has value with possible page rank and established links.

For those of you more advanced

I use St Louis in my title, my meta title, and my meta keywords
